tea at Sakurai Tea Experience, tokyo
Upon entering, I was immediately impressed by the tasteful and warm interior. It felt like a blend between a lab and a restaurant. You sit at a small bar, giving you a front-row view of every step in the tea preparation process. I tried six different teas, accompanied by wagashi, a traditional Japanese sweet made from beans. The tasting included hand-rolled green tea, hojicha, bancha, and matcha.
The staff member explained each serving in great detail and prepared each tea with beautiful, deliberate gestures and a calm, focused presence. The wagashi paired perfectly with the teas, enhancing each flavor. I was especially captivated by the hand-rolled tea, infused with grapes and served cold after the third infusion. It’s clear that every detail here is meticulously planned, allowing you to sample a truly unique variety of teas. This was one of the best tea-tasting experiences I had in Japan.
