tea at MA, kyoto

A friend who lives in Kyoto took me to this tea house, an old, rustic building whose character is beautifully highlighted by the decor. There’s a room with a large wooden table and additional private rooms; ours was a tatami-style room reserved just for us. We were served three different teas, two of which were unique blends, including one made with fermented tea and another infused with cacao beans.

I found it fascinating to try something completely new, along with seasonal sweets that perfectly complemented the teas. The tea house is a bit off the beaten path, but the area is also worth exploring as it feels less touristy.
